The Charter of the Apartment Association, California Southern Cities (AACSC) is revoked by the National Apartment Association

On April 21, 2021, the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles has received approval from the National Apartment Association of its land extension application allowing it to expand its territory and cover the southeastern section of Los Angeles County previously owned by the Apartment Association, California Southern Cities (AACSC ). As a result, the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles charter granted by the National Apartment Association has now expanded to cover all of Los Angeles County. Along with the territory expansion approval obtained by the Greater Los Angeles Territory Apartment Association, the AACSC charter was revoked by the National Apartment Association and the AACSC is no longer affiliated with the National Apartment Association.

In addition, the Orange County Apartment Association also secured an extension of its territory through the National Apartment Association to include the town of Seal Beach, which was previously served by the AACSC.

At the same time, the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles announced numerous plans to serve its expanded territory. These plans should include:

  • Satellite office in the expanded territory and staffed to include operational advisers and a government advocate.
  • An advisory council or a sub-committee of the board of directors will be formed to deal with issues in the expansion territory and to advise the board of directors of the Greater Los Angeles Apartments Association on these matters. Members who own rental properties in the expansion territory will be recruited or may apply to join the board of directors.
  • Many local events and seminars will take place in the expansion territory once it is secure, including the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles’ extensive certification course program such as CAM, CAM-T, CLP and many others.

Current plans also include the rapid transition of current AACSC members who wish to become members of the Greater Los Angeles Apartment Association. Several promotions are currently underway to facilitate their transition.

President and CEO of the National Apartment Association, Robert Pinnegar, said, “The Greater Los Angeles Apartment Association is one of the strongest and most dynamic branches of the National Apartment Association. With their extensive member programs and strong advocacy with government, I am confident members will be well served in the expansion area, and better than ever.

Greater Los Angeles Apartments Association Executive Director Daniel Yukelson said, “We are pleased to receive this endorsement from the National Apartment Association which confirms their belief that we are in the best position to serve the interests of members of AACSC and housing providers. in the expansion territory. Yukelson added, “There have been many difficult and complex regulatory issues that have had and will continue to have serious negative consequences for rental housing providers in the Expansion Territory. Over the past five years, these issues have not been adequately addressed and housing providers have suffered. Now we will have the opportunity to use our vast expertise, strong advocacy and legal firepower to respond to local ordinances that seek to strip housing providers of their property rights. We will never just sit back and we will always make a change there – I can promise you that.

Cheryl Turner, Los Angeles area lawyer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles, said, “We look forward to serving our new members throughout the Expansion Territory. Now housing providers from El Segundo to Long Beach to Downey and the surrounding areas will soon learn the difference in the way we serve members. Whether it’s our high demand webinars two to three times a week; our 120+ page award winning magazine “Apartment Age”, our extensive member services and legal forms library, our vigorous advocacy efforts or our willingness to influence change through the legal process, the balance of power within the expansion territory will soon change. Our presence in the new territory will be quickly recognized.

The Greater Los Angeles Apartments Association is working on the immediate transition of some AACSC members, and of course, all current AACSC members are welcome and encouraged to join. Numerous marketing efforts have also been planned in the expansion territory to encourage membership growth, and dates for online and in-person membership events will be announced soon.
